Senior swimmers

Friday, March 8, 2019

In our session together, the senior level swimmers will focus on their roles as leaders and followers at WEST Coast Aquatics. Why do you swim? What is your gift? Why does your gift, the gift of your coach, and the gift of your teammates matter? These will all be explored during our time together as well as discussing the challenges of our sport and defining the big picture. Swimmers will leave with a better understanding of their leadership role and the importance of a growth mindset. They will understand why failure, risk taking, and curiosity are essential to their process and future successes.

What is leadership and what does a leader look like, act like, and sound like? How are you a leader on your team? We will be exploring these questions as well as how the leader/follower dynamic really works—hint: there are no follower-sheep. Swimmers will discuss their gifts and the gifts of their teammates, and discover how diversity and inclusion are essential in leadership and a team’s success.

In this session, we will discuss the parent’s role in their child’s swimming career and the importance of fostering a growth mindset. We will establish a better understanding of the big picture in their child’s swimming career, and how developing resiliency, curiosity, and risk taking has as direct correlation to their future collegiate and professional success. Finally, parents will create a list of open-ended questions for supportive car (or dinner table) conversations after practices and meets that will foster self advocacy and long term success.
